Beauty - When You Are Truly Comfortable in Your Own Skin, Not Everyone Will Like You But You Won't Care One Bit

1:02:00 pm

Hi beauties!

I had a thought today, my blog is based around everything beauty related, so I wondered do my readers imagine me to be, completely made up with a full face of make up, hair done and with the most beautiful outfit on, while I sit behind a laptop and write every post?

Ill be honest, I imagine all bloggers looking their untimate best while they write every blog post and this has been confirmed when I have met some of them, they always look stunning.  This is just a perception I have and I am aware this is not the case, especially with me.

This is the real world and im not a celebrity with make up artists waiting on me hand and foot and paparazzi waiting in my garden. So most days when I have time to write I am on my day of from work, I am tired and use blogging as my way of relaxing, so I am by no means all made up.  Nine times out of ten I am in my joggers with one of Adams jumpers on with not a scrap of make up on my face and my hair in a top knot with a hair mask in.

It's a treat for your skin to let it breathe so I try not to wear make up unless I am going somewhere and most of the time when I am sitting behind my laptop I look like this below.  Yes I agree my skin isn't perfect actually it has red patches, it gets a bit oily and it gets spots, but who doesn't?

Some people may think that in the picture above I look ugly but you know what, this is me laid bare for all to see and if you don't like what you see, im sorry about that and I feel sorry for you for being so shallow.

I asked my followers on twitter
'Do you wear make up ever single day even if you are not going anywhere, If your answer is yes, why?'
Below are only a few of the responses I got

Now don't get me wrong I love make up and use it to the best of my ability to enhance what nature gave me,  but the point of this post is to say, you dont have to be all made up every single day, im sure the postman wouldn't mind!

  2. Brilliant post Gemma!!! Love this and you look gorgeous! :D I love wearing make up, but I usually only wear essentials like concealer and eye brows filled in!! So most of the time I am bare faced! Mostly because I have eczema and my skin is quite dry so it would do it no good if i slathered make up on it every day!! hehe its great to do a post like this every so often because as much as we all love make up its not the most important thing! We can live without it girls!! lol especially for younger girls!

I just recently discovered you via twitter and watched your you tube video and then got to your blog! You are fab :D

Also doing a MAC give away on my blog just now if you want to join in!

  4. I love this post! Most of the time when I write my blog posts I'm in my PJS looking nothing like my photos!

If I'm not going anywhere I generally dont wear any make up at all!

  6. I think bare faced is great, if your not going out there no real need to because as you said it allows your skin to breathe and is good for clearly up spot and all that. #barefacedbeauty

  8. Nope, yesterday I had a PJ day, bare face and messy bun. I don't do a PJ day very often so usually it would be casual clothes. By the way I think you look beautiful sans make up! :)

  9. You look just as beautiful without makeup, your skin is lovely!!
I'm always makeup free when I blog, generally in my pjs also haha I don't really care about being seen without makeup on, obviously if I'm going somewhere special I cake it on haha but that's just cos I love makeup and playing around with it! In general, I might not have the best skin in the world and I might have bags under my eyes but...who cares?! Haha life's too short to be so self-conscious :)

  10. This post means a lot to me Gem,

I had acne from a young age for quite a few years so always covered my face up with makeup. Even today I have acne scars so I don't feel confident without makeup on and I have to cover up all the redness and pigmentation.

I can't believe that is you without makeup on, you have lovely glowing skin! Some people look gorgeous without makeup on. I know I should let my skin breathe but for me putting makeup on has just become part of my daily routine.

I'm gonna try and be brave and have some makeup free days in future!

  11. Fab post Gemma!!! You look beautiful!!! What beautiful skin you have!!!

On my day off if im just nipping out with the dogs or lazing around the house, I too go bare. I do cringe if I bump into someone I know, but hey ho, worse things and all that.

It has taken me years to feel able to do that, I have had some seriously bad skin times, and they in themselves can make you feel horrid.

Thank you for sharing your bare self with us, as I said a fab post!!!

i really really adore this post , i dont wear make up 80 % of the time but i am so self - concious of my skin - i have so many break outs and dry patches and i always have red patches around my eyes, cant stand my face! It is so great to see a beauty blogger baring all make up free and embracing their true beauty - well done :)

  15. I loved this post!

Since becoming a mum unless I'm going somewhere I never bother with make up. I can't say if it has or hasn't improved my skin since I've been under months of the worst stresses of my life so that has had a damaging effect but I do enjoy not having to worry about rubbing my eyes! I live with my parents atm and they have seen me at my best and worst so I don't care how dreadful I look without make up if they're the only ones I see...

HOWEVER if I'm stepping foot outside the door I have to at least wear concealer, powder & foundation because I do feel the stress has had a detrimental effect on my skin plus sleepless nights with baby has left me with panda eyes (without the eyeliner/mascara). I just feel too insecure & since I'm now a single mum with ridiculous baggage I worry I just repel any possible men who are meeting me because I look so haggard!

YOU on the other hand are what is called a natural beauty.. anyone who considers you ugly in that photo needs a good punch as you have wonderful glowing skin and your eyes really stand out without any help :)

    1. I hate when you forget you have make up on and rub your eyes, its sucha nightmare.
Im sure the right man wouldnt care how much baggage or panda eyes you have:P
Now with that last part you have made me blush, I would never class myself as a natural beauty and I cant believe you would even say such kind words
      :)
